Club Membership is based on a calendar year and runs January through December. Membership is open to members of the public – not just military. No qualification to join the club, but there is a qualification necessary to bow hunt on Fort Belvoir. We get together all the time!
We host an archery competition of some sort every month of the year except during the VA archery season for deer. These events are open to family and friends and a great opportunity to get acquainted with the facilities and club members. Additionally, the club meets each month at the archery center on Fort Belvoir. The meeting includes dinner and beverages. Many opportunities to meet new people and learn more about archery and hunting!
Membership is cheap! Membership is ~$42/year and includes membership in the Virginia Bowhunters Association (VBA). We are a Private Organization on Fort Belvoir with special privileges to use the Fort Belvoir archery ranges. BBH does not own or control the ranges. Our use of the ranges is governed by a Memorandum of Understanding between us and the Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) organization on Fort Belvoir. BBH membership does not give you free access to the ranges. Outdoor Recreation is part of FMWR on Fort Belvoir and is a profit driven, self-sustaining organization, so they must still collect fees for range usage by members. As of January 2024, range fees options include daily for $5, Annual Pass for Indoor or Outdoor for $55, or an Annual Pass for all ranges for $90.
2025 Belvoir Bowhunters Sponsored Pass Information
In August 2024, the Fort Belvoir garrison commander decided to restrict access to only those with DoD ID cards, their minor dependents, and those sponsored to enter post in order to enhance the safety and security of Fort Belvoir. This change is indefinite and will remain in effect until ordered otherwise by the commander. This restricted access policy will continue to be an issue in 2025 for BBH members that don’t have authorized access to Fort Belvoir.
We still have the ability to ask for, and issue sponsored passes for members needing access. However, joining BBH solely as a means to access Fort Belvoir to use the Belvoir MWR archery ranges is unacceptable and will not be allowed. You are accessing Belvoir as a BBH member which means a member who actively participates in the Club (attending events, meetings, shoots, work parties, etc…) in which the use of the MWR facilities is a special privilege granted to our members by Fort Belvoir.
For new members, and those renewing members who have not previously introduced themselves or participated in Club events, they will be granted a probationary period pass (60 days). This will allow them to come on post to attend Club events and to introduce themselves to the Club officers before a pass for the remainder of the membership year will be authorized. We are further considering that if a sponsored pass holder has not attended at least 2 events, and appears to only be using the ranges, the membership may be revoked (without a refund) and the Belvoir sponsored pass access would be terminated (notification sent to the visitor center to revoke the pass). The Club, through our sponsor, is vouching that you will be a participating member – if we’ve never seen you, we cannot vouch for you and that jeopardizes the entire BBH sponsorship privilege.
Facilities
Belvoir Bowhunters, in conjunction with the Fort Belvoir Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Center, hosts and maintains facilities that caters to all forms of field archery. Combine that with awesome events throughout the year for families, archery enthusiast and hunters alike and you’ve got one of the best archery clubs in the state!
