At the October Club Meeting, action was initiated for Belvoir Bowhunter support of the Army Community Services (ACS) Holiday Assistance Program. This provides needy Ft. Belvoir Soldier Families, E5 and below, with funds for a great Christmas dinner. Update 12/10/2009: The Belvoir Bowhunters wish to present Holiday support for 38 Soldier Families at ACS on Monday, 14 Dec. at 1300. The support will be $50 each, in Commissary Gift Certificates. Three of those supported will be from donations by the National Capital Area Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and 35 by the Belvoir Bowhunters. This is the 12th year the Bowhunters have been privileged to support ACS in Holiday Soldier Support Activities. Click on "Read More" for additional details on supporting this effort! BBH saves a portion from monthly Club activities to support this worthy cause and in addition requests donations from the membership to add to the total funding. Donations at the October Meeting were nearly $300. This will be the 12th year of BBH support to ACS. Each family will receive an appropriate Commissary Gift Certificate prior to the Holidays. The 2009 number of families supported is initially 25. If donations increase, more families may be added. Collections will be requested at the November and December Club Meetings or may be forwarded to the BBH Sec. Tres. In passed years the Club has donated boxed dinner elements, including a turkey; changed the last two years to a Gift Certificate and a Turkey. ACS articles in the current Eagle indicate only Certificates will be accepted this year. 10/27/2009 Update: Because of complaints of inequities in past gifts to Soldier Families, changes have been made. ACS is accepting only Gift Certificates. This reduces the workload of BBH Commissary coordination, pickup and delivery of food, etc. I did achieve a delay in BBH delivery beyond the stated 1 Dec final date, so that we can continue to request donations from the membership through the 9 Dec mtg. and continue to coordinate w/WTF for their support. I recommend that BBH provide as many boxed $40 Commissary Gift Certificates as donations will support, w/delivery to ACS on 14 Dec. If an odd dollar amount is collected, that the Club provide minimum necessary funding to buy the maximum number of certificates. That the minimum number of certificates be NLT 25, as previously agreed. Please advise and donate! |
